Our favorite summer event returns! Come celebrate all things Appalachia at this two-day event, full of demonstrators, crafts, food, and music. Tickets available at the door. Additional parking and a shuttle to the museum will be located on Cross Street at the Blue Heights Baptist Church and Mountain City Church of God. Adults: $12 Children: $8 Demonstrations will include weaving, blacksmithing, canjo-making, flintknapping, herbalism, walking sticks, cornshuck dolls, bark buckets, and more!

Learn the essentials of flint knapping from Foxfire contact Jim Enloe. Classes include basic instruction on how to shape flint and other stones into useful tools such as knives, axe heads, spear heads, and arrow heads using techniques developed over thousands of years around the globe. Community Dye Day

Community dye days are back! Bring a plain white article that is 100% cotton such as a t-shirt, bandana, or tote bag. Drop it off in our indigo pot at the beginning of your self-guided tour. When you are done walking through the museum, you’ll be able to pick up your dyed piece! Make sure to bring a bag to take it home in–it will still be damp!

Spoon Carving

Taught by Foxfire contact and demonstrator Kermit Rood, this one-day class introduces the student to the basics of hand carving wooden spoons and utensils, from log to finished product.
