Join Foxfire Museum Director Barry Stiles for an introductory class to basic woodworking skills used in traditional Appalachian buildings, such as hewing and dressing logs. During this six-hour course, students will build a bench from a tree and use historic tools such as axes, hatches, chisels, and augers. Materials and tools provided for use during the class; students will be able to take their completed benches home with them.
Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, gloves, protective eye wear, and a lunch for the day.
