Native Plant Week – Plant Identification Walk with Wildcraft Kitchen

Celebrate Native Plant Week at Foxfire with this guided walk, led by herbalist and chef Cara-Lee Langston of Wildcraft Kitchen

As we meander along the nature trails at Foxfire, participants will be introduced to useful plants and fungi that can be used as food or
medicine. Topics covered include the basics of botanical identification, ethical wildcrafting and stewardship, and culinary and medicinal uses of wild foods and herbs.

Outdoor Preparedness

Participants should feel comfortable walking 1-2 miles at a gentle pace. Please wear closed-toe shoes with socks and long pants/sleeves to protect against poison ivy and insects. Feel free to bring a water bottle, notebook and pen, backpack, brimmed hat, light rain jacket, bug spray, sun protection, your favorite guidebook, and anything else you may need to feel comfortable outdoors.

About the Istructor: Cara-Lee Langston, M.S.

Cara-Lee Langston is a South African-born nutritionist, herbalist, wellness cook, forager, and educator.  She holds an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Georgia State University, a Certificate in Medical Herbalism from the BotanoLogos School of Herbal Studies, a Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Integrative H

ealth from the Maryland University of Integrative Health, and is a Certified Wild Mushroom Food Safety Specialist through Mushroom Mountain.

Cara strives to build relationships with local growers and wildcrafters and engage community interest in integrative health and wellness. Based in the Northeast Georgia Mountains, Cara-Lee provides food and nature-based education and nutrition services for children and adults through her company, Wildcraft Kitchen.
