Native Plant Week: Day 3

June 9, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join us for Native Plant Week, a six-day event celebrating the rich diversity of plants in Appalachia! Wednesday, June 9th, will feature two healing waters demonstration from herbalist Pam Gould of Earth Mama Remedies. One demonstration will be at 11 am and the second will be at 1 pm.

Healing waters or hydro-distillation (better known as Hydrosols) have been used medicinally for thousands of years. It is the act of extracting the essential oil and water from plants by applying heat and water. Many people are familiar with the healing properties of essential oils but not the healing waters of plants. Pam Gould (local Registered Herbalist), will demonstrate how these are made and why hydrosols are a sustainable option for using plant medicine. Two demonstrations will be offered – one demonstration will show a distillation of pine and the second demonstration will be spring botanicals (to be determined).

Learn about historic and contemporary uses of native plants in the mountain during this week-long program. These on-site activities are included with general admission to the museum. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to museum capacity. We ask that you please wear a face covering when interacting with our demonstrators. See below for complete schedule of activities. Purchase a membership and save on admission–all members receive free admission to the museum for a year!
