Intro to Wood Stove Cooking

Ever wanted to learn how to cook on a wood stove? Now’s your chance! This intro level course will take you through the basics of working with a wood-fired cookstove. Taught by David Grist and Foxfire curator Kami Ahrens, this small group course will provide hands-on learning opportunities for chefs and novices alike, covering topics like managing the stove and oven temperature, cooking with cast iron, and caring for your stove. You’ll also prepare at least three dishes to enjoy at the end of the class, focusing on local ingredients and regional recipes.
We’ll be cooking on a 1937 Home Comfort Wood Stove, donated to the museum as a teaching tool.
