April 8 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
This class is for anyone who wants to capture and preserve family stories, whether to share with loved ones or simply for the joy of remembering. Using the Foxfire method of journalism and writing, we will explore how real stories are gathered and told in the original words of the people who lived them, honoring both their experiences and their voices.
Participants will learn how Foxfire students listened deeply, asked thoughtful questions, and shaped interviews into meaningful written narratives. We will use these same approaches to gather family stories and turn them into lively, personal accounts that can be shared, saved, and passed along.
This class is collaborative and hands-on. Together, we will learn, gather stories, write, and workshop our pieces in a supportive community that values curiosity, respect, and the power of shared history.
Prior writing experience is not needed.
There will be discussion of memoirs as well, though this class has a different central focus.
Guests will need a note-taking method (a laptop or notebook is fine for class). For other work, a way to record a conversation will also be needed.
A laptop with Google access will be needed for our finished work.
