Foxfire Heritage Days

Foxfire Heritage Days is back June 5 and 6 for its 18th year!

For two days, the Foxfire village will be full of demonstrators sharing the skills, stories, tools, foodways, music, and hands-on Appalachian traditions that have shaped life in this region for generations.

This is not a booth-style event. Demonstrations are spread throughout the historic village, inside and around the cabins, porches, forge, fire areas, and grounds. Visitors can walk the village, hear the forge, smell what is cooking, ask questions, watch traditional skills up close, and spend the day exploring.

You’ll find blacksmithing at the forge, black powder rifle history, pottery on the wheel, butter in the churn, woodstove cooking, open-fire cooking, weaving, spinning, felting, flintknapping, basketry, poplar bark folding, chair caning, coppersmithing, moonshine history, instruments, walking sticks, woodcarving, soap making, children’s activities, live music, and barbecue from Blue Hound Barbecue.

Families can also visit the Children’s Village, where children can try hands-on activities, ask questions, make something, and have room to move around.

Foxfire is a historic mountain village with steep, uneven paths and original buildings, so not every site is wheelchair accessible. Visitors with mobility needs are welcome to call ahead at 706-746-5828 or ask staff at the Mercantile when they arrive so we can help plan the easiest route.

Pets

Pets are welcome, but must be well-behaved and on leashes.
