June 15 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
This fun class is all about the history and creation of a small traditional style face jug. Face Jugs have a rich history in Appalachia that reaches far beyond our region. These unique creations had both practical and legendary uses in day-to-day life. You will learn about the history of Face Jugs as you create your own jug using hand-building methods. Basic techniques of decoration with examples will be available as we turn your work into a one-of-a-kind creation.
Please note that this is a two day experience! You should plan to attend both days for the full time provided in order to complete your face jug. This class is offered once a month to help with ease of scheduling. All classes are subject to a minimum number of registrations in order to hold the date. This class is for participants 14 years or older, and our class size is capped at 5 people to ensure everyone has one-on-one attention from the instructor for a fantastic pottery experience! Please make other arrangements for furry family members for the day, but bring water and snacks if you like.
Admission to the class also includes admission for one to tour the Foxfire Museum on both the Pottery Building and Glazing Days. You don’t want to miss the full experience!
