March 21 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Come join Georgia Master Naturalist and Certified Edible Mushroom guide Michelle Withrow for an engaging walk-and-talk exploring native edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms. Michelle hosts the annual Georgia Wild Foods educational weekend each fall in North Georgia and has led popular walks at Foxfire for the past two years.
This nature walk is an easy, approximately one-mile stroll through the Foxfire property. It is suitable for ages 7 and up, but not recommended for those with limited mobility, as the terrain includes occasional uneven ground and gentle inclines. Hiking shoes or tennis shoes are recommended, along with sunscreen, bug spray, and a light rain jacket.
The experience also includes a brief classroom session with handouts and the chance to explore touch-friendly samples of dried mushrooms. Walk and classroom time together total about two hours.
The class concludes with a delicious snack of acorn pancakes with prickly pear syrup and a wild juice tasting. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch and spend the rest of the day exploring Foxfire’s unique buildings and grounds.
Foxfire admission is included in the class fee.
