Teachers in middle grades and secondary education are invited to join facilitators from around the country and Canada to take part in a week-long workshop that covers The Foxfire Approach to Teaching and Learning.

Classic week-long course, residential at the Foxfire Center located in Mountain City, GA

  • First session: Sunday, June 4 thru Saturday, June 10
  • Second session: Sunday, June 11 thru Saturday, June 1

Text: Experience and Education, John Dewey; 60th anniversary edition.

Cost: $706, covering lodging, meals and materials, including text.

In the course…

  • Participants assume responsibility for planning, with the guidance of the course facilitators, how to fulfill the following “givens.”
  • Participants explore the ten Foxfire Core Practices, considering the realities of schooling, with the intent of beginning to envision adaptations to their classrooms.
  • Participants read, engage and discuss Dewey’s Experience and Education.
  • As the concluding activity, each participant develops and presents a unit plan or lesson plan manifesting thoughtful engagement with the Core Practices.

Accommodations at the Center are rustic but comfortable. Breakfast and lunch are provided; evening meals are on your own. Special dietary needs can be met on request.
