You Can Weave!

To get the weaving results I wanted in the classroom, I needed a sequence of lessons that would build a basic level of knowledge and skill and progress by small steps. The lessons in this book are set up to allow teachers to introduce the basic elements of weaving to their students without having to be experts themselves. By working through the lessons, you will build the vocabulary necessary for understanding the process and the skills necessary to produce good work. Because funds for equipment and supplies often are limited, all the lessons rely on supplies that are readily available in most schools. Students can easily build many of the looms. The lessons mirror the technological advances in weaving which have occurred in cultures throughout the world. The beginning projects use few tools but rely on laborious counting of "over and under." Each project introduces a technological advance and a new challenge. By the time they are weaving on a backstrap loom, students will have experienced tremendous change in the basic process of weaving.
