Annual Appeal 2009

Price: Starting at $10.00
Thank you for considering to support Foxfire and our ongoing efforts to preserve the heritage of Southern Appalachia and share it with generations to come. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we depend on your contributions for a portion of our annual operating budget. Without your generous support, Foxfire would not be able to supply our local students with the resources to continue gathering and preserving their mountain heritage, nor would we be able to maintain our unique Museum facility to share that heritage with visitors and students from across the country and around the world.

If you would like to read president Ann Moore's 2009 Annual Appeal letter, you may read the letter here or download a PDF of the letter and donation form here.

We understand the strain that the current economic climate has placed on everyone these last years, and we are truly grateful for whatever support that you are able to offer this year. We, the staff, students, and patrons of Foxfire, thank you for helping continue this legacy.

Annual Appeal contributions can be designated to support one of Foxfire's three major program areas, one special ongoing project, or as an unrestricted gift that will be applied to the organization's area of greatest need.

The Foxfire Magazine Program at Rabun County High School - Over four decades after the program began, Rabun County students still work to gather the stories of their elders for The Foxfire Magazine, continuing to add to one of the largest existing collections of information about the people and traditions of Southern Appalachia.

The Foxfire Museum & Heritage Center in Mountain City, Georgia - Envisioned as a place beyond the classroom to preserve artifacts ranging from simple hand tools to complete log cabins, and as a place to interact with the community around them, the Museum welcomes many thousands of visitors each year and gives them a unique look into the past.

Foxfire Teacher Education - In an effort to spread understanding and application of the educational approach behind the Foxfire program's success, Foxfire developed materials and training courses to show teachers how to allow student decisions into the learning process, use the school's community as a resource, and to find audiences beyond the classroom for the students' work.

Children's Education packets - We are working to begin providing simple heritage "goodie bags" for elementary-age school groups who come for guided tours of the Museum, containing some simple traditional souvenirs and an informative activity booklet showcasing some of the things the students will have seen at the Museum.
