from the back cover:
Jean Emhart was born in Philadelphia, PA, and moved to Georgia with her husband in the 1950s. Like most everyone who finds their way to North Georgia, they fell in love with our mountain lifestyle. Jean now lives a quiet life in her Clayton, GA, home. She enjoys painting with acrylics, attends her church where she was an organist, enjoys her friends, and writes a monthly recipe column for the Georgia Mountain Laurel Magazine. This book is a collection of nearly four years and 140-plus recipes from her interviews with the folks of Rabun County. Much like our culture, you will discover a collection of recipes from the simplest to gourmet fare. Life in our mountains is relaxed, yet uniquely refined. You may find us on our front porches, barefoot dining on quiche and fine wine one day, and enjoying fried fatback and cornbread the next. To say we enjoy the best of both worlds is an understatement. We hope you will find great joy in the stories of the folk who welcomed Jean into their homes and their lives to share their best recipes with her. Jean certainly has relished her time spent… Across the Table.
